Temple of Dharma
Sea
Located in Shijingshan District of Beijing,
Temple of the
Dharma is a cultural relic housing valuable murals. Built in the Ming Dynasty, the
most famous cultural relic in Temple of Dharma Sea is the painted mural of Ming
Dynasty in the Daxiongbaodian (Mahavira Hall).
These painted murals are the most
magnificent murals with the longest history in Beijing. Painted realistically and smoothly,
all of them are lifelike and have special facial expressions and evident
characteristics of Ming Dynasty. They are outstanding among the wall paintings
of the same period in the world.
Unique in its own right with its own
salient features, Temple of the Dharma attracts
lots of tourists when they have a Beijing travel.
Temple of the Origin of Dharma
Properly the oldest Buddhist temple in Beijing, Temple of the
Origin of Dharma houses a number of valuable cultural relics.
Seated in Xuanwu District and was built in 645, this temple consists of six
courtyards with such major buildings as gate, Bell and Drum Towers,
Tianwang-dian, Daxiongbaodian, Minzhongtai, Jingyetang and Cangjinglou.
In the past, Temple of the Origin of Dharma was not only famous
in history but also famed for its lilac gardens. In ancient times, the temple
served as a gathering place for celebrities and poets to party and compose
poems among the fragrance of blooming lilac. Until now, the thick perfume of
the lilac still makes visitors intoxicated. The Chinese Institute of Buddhist
Studies and the China Buddhist Relics Library now occupy the temple.
Temple of Great Charity
Situated in Xicheng District, Temple of Great Charity is one of the well-known
Buddhist temples in Beijing.
Though several renovated and expanded, the layout of Temple of Great Charity
still has been kept. Temple
of Great Charity covers
an area of 23, 000 square meters and has a symmetrical layout with courtyards
well arranged.
In addition, Temple of Great Charity
preserves large number of rare relics.Today, this temple houses the China
Buddhist Association. Also, it is the seat of the China Buddhist Culture
Institute and the editorial department of The Voice of Dharma magazine.
